Leonie de Garnham: Coaching & Personal Training

I’ve struggled with writing this week’s blog. I started writing two different blog posts and each time scrapping them.

WHY? Because I didn’t feel either post was coming from an authentic place.

Being authentic and representing who I am, and my values is very important. No, it doesn’t need to be full perfection, but I do need to come across authentic.

January is nearly a forgotten memory, why this is important. We’re one month out of 12 down.

Did you set goals and make plan for the entire year of 2024?

What if I said to you that we usually overestimate how much we can achieve in one year and underestimate how much we can do in three years.

Right now, it still feels like you have the entire year ahead of you and it feels like you have a lot of time to achieve everything you’ve planned. This is because there’s not a lot of urgency when it feels like you have months up your sleeve.

This year I’ve decided I’m going to focus on three months at a time.

Yes, I’ve still created my yearly goals and targets. But then I’ve broken these down into smaller (micro) goals.

These micro goals have then been broken down to daily and weekly activities which all are building blocks to achieving these micro goals.

Because the secret ingredient into getting results and success is doing these basic activities each day. – Yeah, it’s not really a secret. Doing the boring stuff gets you to your results.

THINK ABOUT THIS.

Your goal is to run a ½ marathon, that’s a big daunting goal. Feels hard and maybe even unachievable. You start training and only focusing on this goal. Then it starts feeling like a chore.

How about you break this goal down into micro goals.

  • complete 5kms then
  • complete 10kms then
  • complete ½ marathon.

What about your day-to-day activities you ask?

You’re right you need to tick your training days, that’s your running and hopefully you’ve added strength too.

BUT there’s the other activities that are just as important. Daily hydration, your recovery (sleep), remembering to eat and of course stretching/ Foam rolling/massage.

It’s doing these basics consistently that count. You won’t notice any change from one day to the next. However do these basics consistently and in three months’ time you’re going to notice a difference. You’re going to be on your way to achieving your big goals this year.

Doing the work, doing those small things often is the – not so secret ingredient to success.

Now go and add the basic day to day tasks into your plan, THEN EXCUTE THEM.
